How We Choose The Brands We Share

We believe that the power to change the world lies in the hands of consumers and gaining a better understanding of where our money is going is the first step. Our mission is to share brands & influencers that are making a positive impact on the world…. because where you spend your money matters. 
 

So how do we choose the brands that we highlight? We ask ourselves…
 

WHAT IS THEIR PURPOSE?

 

First and foremost, we search for brands that are using their business as a force for good. We believe it’s not about what they do as a company, but why they do it. So we dig deep to find out the “why.”

 

WHAT IS THE STORY BEHIND THE BRAND?

 

Do the founders have an interesting story of how and why they got started? What motivated them to start this business? We want to share this insight whenever possible because it helps to understand who (and what) is driving the brand forward into the future.

 

DO THEY GIVE BACK?

 

We look for brands that give back in some way, whether that’s by donating a percentage of their profits to a charity or grassroots organization, or by donating their time and goods to these organizations that are dedicated to making a difference in the world. We also strive to highlight brands that support a variety of causes, from the environment to health, socioeconomic issues, animal rights and more.  

 

DO THEY VALUE DIVERSITY?
 

Diversity is also very important to us, so whenever possible, we look to share brands whose founders come from diverse backgrounds, cultures & ethnicities, and understand the importance of having a diverse workforce.

 

WHAT ARE THEIR CERTIFICATIONS?

 

We love Certified B Corporations, because they are businesses that have proven to balance purpose and profit. According to B Lab (the non-profit that administers these certifications), Certified B Corps are “legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their workers, customers, suppliers, community and environment.” Seriously, who wouldn’t love that!? However, we realize that there are brands that are still relatively new and may be working towards getting B Certified in the future. So, while we do look for this certification when doing our research, not every brand we highlight will be certified. We also look for other certifications and awards including Leaping Bunny, the Purpose Power Index and many more.

 

WHAT MATTERS TO OUR READERS?

 

And last (but certainly not least), we look to YOU, our readers, to hear about what brands you love and what causes, and organizations matter to YOU! We do our best to actually try every product we recommend (and if we don’t love it, we won’t share it).
